Aside for a missed period, there are other tell-tale signs of pregnancy. Here are some early signs and symptoms of pregnancy that you might want to acquaint yourself with before you make a self-diagnosis.
When the fertilized egg attaches itself to the uterine wall, there is an “implantation bleeding” that can cause spotting and sometimes cramping. The cramping may resemble menstrual cramps, but the cramping and bleeding associated with pregnancy are hardly noticeable. There might also be a white, vaginal discharge that is a sign that the uterine walls are beginning to thicken. If the discharge is foul-smelling, this may be a cause of something else. You may want to visit a physician afterwards.
Breast changes, such as tenderness may also be apparent at the early stage of pregnancy. Due to an increase in the female hormone levels, some breast changes may occur, such as soreness, tingly sensation, they become swollen or feel fuller. Sometimes, the areola becomes darker in color in wider in diameter.
Nausea with or without vomiting
Nausea or morning sickness in pregnancy is a common sign of pregnancy. It does not necessarily happen in the morning for it can also occur any time of the day. Aversion to food may also be a cause of nausea, like the smell of garlic or a whiff of a certain perfume can make a pregnant woman’s stomach turn. But despite the nausea, a mother should think of her child and eat as much as she can. A healthy well-balanced meal is essential for a developing baby inside the womb.
Easy fatuig-ability is another common sign of pregnancy. A little activity often leads them tired and sleepy. It might be a cause of fluctuating levels of hormones during this time, especially an elevated level of the hormone progesterone. It is important to get enough rest and sleep. Eat a diet that is high in protein and iron too.
This may be another cause of hormonal levels that is fluctuating during pregnancy or it may be another case entirely like diabetes or a urinary tract infection which also calls for immediate medical attention.
Craving for a specific type of food may be experienced during this time. A sudden interest in a food that has not even been tasted or used to have an aversion on, may suddenly pop into mind and a pregnant woman would suddenly want to have. This is most inconvenient if the cravings happen during midnight or in the early morning hours.
All of these signs and symptoms may or may not happen. Each pregnancy is unique and it does not have to be the same with all other pregnancies. When it does happen, brace yourself because it won’t last that long and all the discomfort will soon come to pass.
